You visit the earth and water it abundantly, enriching it greatly. God’s stream is filled with water,
for You prepare the earth in this way,
providing people with grain.
You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.
You crown the year with Your goodness;
Your ways overflow with plenty.
by Pastor Bert Spann
As I sit here this morning I am thinking about, and praying for, my friends. You see, they know this verse full well, as they have a large garden they work each year. They are a family who digs their hands deep into the soil, and they bank on God being a provider of rain, sun, and harvest.
Last night, my friend was telling me that the strawberries are already coming in. Yes, they are the sweetest berries you will ever eat. When you have had their berries, you know you have something special! Make no mistake, when you are a farmer, you understand that there are two parties at work.
A man can break up the ground, plant seed, and pull weeds, but this alone does not insure a harvest. There have been many hard working farmers through the years who have lost everything they have, and it isn’t because of a lack of effort.
The Lord, He is the necessary One. He provides rain. Yes, last night during the prayers, my friend prayed for rain. All through the night, and into this morning, rain has come in a steady shower.
The Psalmist makes a desperate plea, and this is my cry for my friends this morning…
My prayer …
Lord, I come to You right now. I thank You so much for this precious family. They are living examples of what it means to rely totally on You. I pray what David prayed, that You would bless the growth of their farm. I pray that You would crown their year with Your goodness and Your ways overflow with plenty. Oh, for a bumper year! Amen.
